I just put on the TV to watch my beloved Seinfeld and noticed Judge Judy was on on another channel. This amused me slightly as earlier today I noticed people discussing that awful show Carnivale on an LJ community I frequent. The reason this amuses me is because both shows feature celebrities I absolutely cannot STAND.

Judge Judy is a horrific human being who I hated SO MUCH as a teenager (I was in high school when her show was popular) that I actually had a dream where I beat her up. Yup, slammed her into a fence, punched her in the face, got her down on the ground and completely fucked her up. The dream surprised the hell outta me, but it was a pretty cool dream. Though it makes sense I would have a dream like that at the age of 16, I guess!

As for stupid Carnivale, one of that main stars of it, Clea Duval, PISSES ME OFF SO MUCH. It's just her face. I hate her face. A lot. She is hideous. How does someone with her ugly mug get on TV and the movies?

FIX YOUR FUCKING FACE, OMG.

My first experience with her was in The Craft. Remember that movie? It was about 3 hot teenage girls who were witches, and her.

And then there's Anna Paquin, who looks like she's bit hit in the face with a shovel. UGH, YOU HAVE MILLIONS OF DOLLARS, FIX YOUR FUCKING TEETH. Ugghhhhhhhhhh. It sucks that she plays the MAIN CHARACTER of one of my favourite shows (True Blood) but at least there's enough other awesome people on the show so that I can concentrate on them and ignore her. :P

What celebrities drive *YOU* mad, simply because of their annoying FACES? Or because of their atrocious attitude (Judge Judy has 2 strikes against her there, lol). Tell me, I'm curious! BUT! I'm not interested in reading about the popular stars to hate--ie, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga*, the Kardashians, Snookie, etc etc...I get it, everyone hates them, everyone's sick of them, etc. No no, I want to hear about the stars whose ugly faces make you wonder how the fuck they got in the business in the first place and/or have shitty attitudes who aren't already bashed to death every single day on the internet.

Oh yeah, and I know everyone likes to fap over how ~amazing~ Carnivale was but that show nearly put me to sleep and I'm sick and tired of everyone being all, "OMG you hated that show? Really??!" so if you were gonna comment to moan about that, save it. :P

*Personally I think you're insane if you hate her, but that's neither here nor there in this discussion. ;)

I never heard of Carnivale, although I recognize that actress.

As for people I hate, it's this woman from a cooking show on the Food Network called French Food at Home. Laura Calder is her name. I fucking HATE her. It's not her face per se, she's kind of cute, it's her attitude, and the way she says the French words. It gets me unbelievably ANGRY whenever I see her - to the point that Dan has to change the channel if I'm in the room.

BTW, I think that dream about Judge Judy is AWESOME! If I could control my dreams, that's what I want to dream about tonight!

Ahahaha I LOVE IT! I love it because even though I don't know Laura Calder, I totally know that sentiment. There's certain commercials that make me that irate as well. I have to change the channel or else I'll flip out, lol

Don't even get me STARTED on commercials that piss me off. I actually sent an e-mail to one company about their commercial. They stopped airing it - I don't know if my letter had anything to do with it, but I like to think it did. So many commercials entertain me, but so many make me want to stick a fork in my eye! (Case in point? Subway's "foot long, 5 dollars" on the radio - OMG, shoot me now!)

HOLY FRAKKING SHIT @ THE FOOT LONG SONG. Omg omg omg makes me want to killlll. I don't listen to the radio but I've seen it on TV plenty, which is much worse, 'cuz I have all these really annoying-looking people making really annoying faces to go along with the terrible 'music'!

Which ad prompted you to send a letter?

Date: 2011-11-12 12:57 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sarcasmoqueen.livejournal.com
It was a federally funded (American) commercial. You know, one of those commercials that directs you to a website for more info. I forget what the actual website was, but it was aimed at kids and advertising or something like that. Basically it said something to the effect that you don't have to fall victim to advertising and believe everything you see and that you can make up your own mind about what you do in life like smoking, drinking, etc. But then at the end, they tell you to go to the website and they will tell you what to do. I don't think they realized the irony that they were telling kids to think for themselves and pretty much in the same breath to let the government think FOR them! In the e-mail, I told them they were just as guilty as the advertisers they were condemning. Gah, I wish I could remember the exact website...

I don't know if I've ever seen that ad, but you're right, it's totally a big contradiction! Good for you for sending them that letter, maybe other people did as well and that's why it isn't on anymore!

Then again, they might have just been pulling it for now...ever notice sometimes an ad you haven't seen in AGES suddenly just resurfaces and you realize you had forgotten it (thankfully) until that moment and then you're like "noooo I thought we were done with that ad, I was so much happier when I forgot it existed?!" I HATE IT WHEN THAT HAPPENS! -_-

DIABLO CODY.

Everything about her. Her writing. Her film. Her TV show. The fact she was a stripper "for fun" and was discovered on the internet when whoever- her manager? Was looking for porn and found her blog. How somehow that's supposed to constitute "paying her dues." More than that- she can't just admit she was INCREDIBLY LUCKY- not only that she was discovered that way, but that her first script was even MADE and picked up by talented people and the movie was "good." Her stupid fake name. Remember the shoe debacle for the Oscars? Some super famous shoe designer- I GUESS- makes one pair of custom shoes for a nominee each year and he offered to make her some. She helped design them and everything- INCLUDING THE USE OF DIAMONDS making for a million dollar price tag. Then decided to not wear them and threw a HUGE FIT (http://www.myspace.com/diablocody/blog/360462900) saying people tricked her and were taking advantage of her CRED (pay no attention the designer himself was super famous). WTF. Why did she think she was being asked to design a shoe? Even if she didn't know, it wasn't a bad thing! HE WAS MAKING HER A GIFT BECAUSE HE LIKED HER WORK.

JESUS even reading her blog makes me want to puke. It sounds like every other whiny 13 year old on the internet. Compare that to the designer's response (http://extratv.warnerbros.com/2008/02/stuart_weitzman_response.php).

I think my Haterade is even more potent because I had a friend who WORSHIPPED her- so I could never say anything about how much she bothered me without an ultra defensive, "SHE'S AMAZING. SHE'S ADORABLE. YOU JUST DON'T LIKE SEXUALLY EMPOWERED WOMEN" argument coming back at me. Well, now that person is gone, so I can FREELY SAY- THIS CELEB MAKES ME INSANE.

She's quieted down, so maybe I should rehash my knowledge and back up. She became a mom and isn't out SHOCKING and PUNKING the world anymore. Maybe this is just vintage annoyance, but it's enough that I don't ever want to follow any of her work... uh, ever.

The end!

Oh wow, I LOVE this comment! It's so interesting, as I've never heard about this woman before, but she sounds horrible and now I totally want to check out her and her website, and all the stuff you linked to. What a bunch of craziness! Haha! I'm gonna investigate those links and let you know what I think. ;)

Oh, you probably have, or at least her work- she wrote "Juno" and "Jennifer's Body" and show runs "The United States of Tara." She won an Oscar for "Juno."

Date: 2011-11-13 07:05 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bee-york.livejournal.com
Hmmm I've never seen any of those movies but I've heard of them! Juno's supposed to be really bad. Everyone says it's a hipster movie, or something. I dunno, I guess I'll have to check it out for myself someday!

United States of Tara sounds soooo familiar! And Jennifer's Body is that Megan Fox movie, right?

Date: 2011-11-13 11:00 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lostsailors.livejournal.com
Hipster movie would be about right. It was just the dialogue I found really insufferable. United States is the one with Toni Collette- I'm not sure what channel it's on. I'm not even sure I know anyone who watches it (I certainly don't). Google tells me it was canceled this year. And yes, that's Jennifer's Body. I was annoyed with DC at the time because she was writing for EW at the time and I talked about her idea about using and empowering a female lead like it had NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE in genre, which is patently untrue. Horror has a pretty long standing tradition using strong female leads (never mind I don't consider a succubus character really empowering?) and just in general, genre films brought us famous female characters like Ellen Ripley- so wtf was she talking about, I don't know.

Hmmm, kind of OT, but reminds me: strong female leads (and what I consider to be an actual empowering female character VS what Hollywood *claims* to be an empowering female character but is actually an objectified ~man fantasy~) is actually a post I've been planning to write! It's just something that's been on my mind a lot lately. :)

I would love to read this! This is one of my favourite topics as well. I like to call it the "strong character, female" vs "strong female, character" problem. Where Hollywood (and others) equate physical strength with depth of character. A strong female character doesn't have to be able to kick your ass! She could be like Helen Mirren in "The Queen" or Vera Drake or hell, Shannon in LOST. People think in that case because she was a vapid bimbo that she wasn't a strong character. WRONG. A strong character means you could cover their names on a script, and still pick out their lines because their voice is that unique. I'm not saying she was the deepest character or whatever, but her voice was undeniable, you always knew her voice. You always knew what she might wear or the type of choices she might make. THAT is a strong female character.

Here (http://www.overthinkingit.com/2008/08/18/why-strong-female-characters-are-bad-for-women/) is one of my favourite articles about the phenom!

From: [identity profile] bee-york.livejournal.com
Omg, your comment here is amazing! You described a strong female lead SO WELL. Amen about the kicking-ass thing; that's actually the biggest problem about strong females. Some dellusional men think that people like Lara Croft or the chicks from Sucker Punch are strong female characters. LMAO NO THEY'RE NOT. Not even close. They're some of the best examples of walking sex objects, nothing more. Le sigh...

I LOVE what you wrote about Shannon. I never thought of it that way, and I agree, she's a pretty good example of a stong female character. =) I LOVE what you said here:

I like to call it the "strong character, female" vs "strong female, character" problem.

SOOOOOO well-put. That sums up so much right there. <3

Yesssssss. The worst is when people argue you don't like a character because she's too sexual. NO. You CAN be a physically strong kick ass character AND be a good female character. You CAN be hyper sexual or sexy, and be a good female character. Just the CHANCES of all of this happening in mainstream Hollywood films is like nil.

I had that argument about Shannon SO MANY TIMES during LOST. Kate was one of my least favourite characters because she hits like every "strong female, character" trope and is almost 100% defined by the men around her. They gave her a tilde kind of tilde plot with Aaron- but it always felt really hamfisted to me. People would say I just didn't like her because she was a female and it was like- whaa? SUN was my favourite Lostie character before she was ruined. Before Ben, ROUSSEAU was my favourite character period. That first season was filled with amazing female characters, of which Shannon was wrong. Just because a girl is an airhead, doesn't mean she isn't a strong character- look at all the famous valley girls from Buffy and Clueless!

I think that little quotation, "strong character, female" came from that article- but if it didn't, I can't remember where I read it but I have used that SO MANY TIMES in life. It's such a wonderful, succinct statement!

Kate...is almost 100% defined by the men around her.

Omg. I like Kate, but you are SO RIGHT. I never really realized that, but you really hit the nail on the head there. That's a pretty accurate description of her, now that I think about it!

People would say I just didn't like her because she was a female

Wth? People said this to you? o_O Man, people are weiiiiiird!

I really like the way you've described strong characters who are female. I really like your perspective and you've made me look at things a bit differently. I love it when that happens. :)

i would say Kirsten Dunst. i know everyone thinks she's pretty but i think she looks dirty and drunk all the time and looks like she should eat meat.

i think people think she's pretty because she's blonde and charismatic. if they took that away, they wouldn't think much of her, as i do.

Oh! I hate her too! Ever since she was on Celebrity Teen Jeopardy several years ago after Interview With a Vampire came out. She was a moron, and it wasn't just due to her age - Joseph Gordon Levitt was on the same episode, but he was freakin GENIUS!

Haha! Kirsten Dunst is pretty strange-looking, I totally gotta agree with you there. She's....weird. I dunno. She doesn't really bother me but I don't love her either, although I have to admit I actually kinda like the fact that she isn't generic-looking like so many other actors are. But I couldn't call her pretty either. I dunno. But, I'm reminded of a quote from Family Guy now...when Peter says that Kirsten Dunst and Sarah Jessica Parker would come up even in a "hot body/weird face contest". Hahahahahah!

I've never watched Carnivale, all I know about it is that one of Meat Loaf's daughters played a stripper. =P

ho looks like she's bit hit in the face with a shovel LMAO I used to have a picture of Vin Diesel on my wall (circa the xXx movie) and my sister made the exact same comment about him!

As for celebs I dislike simply for their annoying faces, Jessica Alba. Seriously. I have never understood the way people drool all over her. She's so BORING and PLAIN looking. Like, seriously, her face is like a bowl of oatmeal. Blaaaaaaaand. Also, John Malkovitch.

HAHAHA Vin Diesel! Omg.

And loooolllll Jessica Alba. She IS very dull-looking, very ordinary. I LOVE that you compared her face to a bowl of oatmeal. That's the best description I've heard of a generic-looking celebrity, I think I may actually start using that now! :D

John Malkovitch is DEFINITELY one of the ugliest men in Hollywood, ooooh boy did you ever hit the nail on the head with that one! But, he's not as bad as.....WILLEM DAFOE!!!!! :O

I think it has more to do with her choices. she does a lot of indie films, horror films. I've seen lots of movies with her in them as a result.
