I was quite upset to hear that Amy Winehouse had passed away, because I've always thought she was exceptionally talented. I've never been a HUGE fan, but I've enjoyed her music for awhile, and most of all, I've always wanted her to pull through and kick her addictions' and demons' asses. Tragically that never happened, and it never will. I'm not surprised that she died before 30, but that doesn't make it any less sad.

What really didn't help matters were the absolutely tasteless comments from some of my friends on Facebook on my own status. You don't care about Amy Winehouse? Great, you don't have to. But, obviously I do. So why in the world would you come and post on my status to tell me how little you care about Amy? What good does that do?
What's going on in your head when you do that? "Oh hey, my friend is feeling sad about news event A, so I'm gonna be super helpful and comment JUST TO SAY how little I care about news event A and that news event B is more sad to me, even though it's completely irrelevant to this conversation and my friend's feelings!"
Really, what part of that sounds like a good idea?

The comment that made me snap though was my friend insisting that Amy did it to herself. She half-killed herself, so who cares, right? Yeah, who gives a fuck about addictions and the people who suffer from them? Hey, if you've never been addicted to anything, you're CLEARLY more deserving of life than those who ARE addicted, right?
Basically, if you think addicts deserve to be left for dead, you're part of the problem. Pointe finale.
I hope that no one you care about ever becomes addicted to anything, because I don't think you'd be able to cope.

We ALL write stupid, boring, inane shit on Facebook, all the time. Just like I know a lot of crap I write pisses people off (or bores them to tears), I see things in my friends' statuses that piss me off on a *daily basis* (lol I'm easily annoyed, I know!). But I don't comment on these statuses to say as much, because I'm not an asshole (or at least, I try not to be). Really, it's just basic manners. I'm appalled at how many otherwise normally-functioning adults lack them. :/

Not me. All my status updates are hilarious and awesome. Like my LJ I try only to post when I have something of interest to share, otherwise I just dont post for postings sake.

1. Given the way you are on LJ, I have no reason not to believe you 100% (and that's not sarcasm btw; well, you should know by now how much I love the way you write and WHAT you write!)

2. Where the hell have you been? I'VE MISSED YOU. ;_;

Ha! One of my friends posted it to my wall (speaking of Facebook) but on average it takes me like a month to watch anything that people post there, because I'm almost never on Facebook without listening to music (or watching a movie) at the same time, making it impossible to watch clips. But I happen to not be doing either of those things at the moment, strangely enough, so I just watched the clip now and I admit I LOL'd for real. Those 2 are so funny together. XD

I've always wondered it even more on news articles. Like, it's one thing for someone to comment on Marina's FB status, because, at least then they know you and are in a sense talking to you. But I've seen articles on news sites - everything from the New York Times (when it still allowed commenting on regular news articles) to Yahoo to the Yukon News - where someone will just post a comment on an article (let's say it's about someone dying) that reads simply:

"Bo-ring."

Or:

"I don't care."

Or whatever.

Someone explain to me what possesses a person to do that. Who are they saying that to? Are they just announcing it to the internet? In that case, I might as well just comment on the CBC article about Jack Layton that I'm going to the bathroom now, because that's just as relevant.
