I was quite upset to hear that Amy Winehouse had passed away, because I've always thought she was exceptionally talented. I've never been a HUGE fan, but I've enjoyed her music for awhile, and most of all, I've always wanted her to pull through and kick her addictions' and demons' asses. Tragically that never happened, and it never will. I'm not surprised that she died before 30, but that doesn't make it any less sad.
What really didn't help matters were the absolutely tasteless comments from some of my friends on Facebook on my own status. You don't care about Amy Winehouse? Great, you don't have to. But, obviously I do. So why in the world would you come and post on my status to tell me how little you care about Amy? What good does that do?
What's going on in your head when you do that? "Oh hey, my friend is feeling sad about news event A, so I'm gonna be super helpful and comment JUST TO SAY how little I care about news event A and that news event B is more sad to me, even though it's completely irrelevant to this conversation and my friend's feelings!"
Really, what part of that sounds like a good idea?
The comment that made me snap though was my friend insisting that Amy did it to herself. She half-killed herself, so who cares, right? Yeah, who gives a fuck about addictions and the people who suffer from them? Hey, if you've never been addicted to anything, you're CLEARLY more deserving of life than those who ARE addicted, right?
Basically, if you think addicts deserve to be left for dead, you're part of the problem. Pointe finale.
I hope that no one you care about ever becomes addicted to anything, because I don't think you'd be able to cope.
We ALL write stupid, boring, inane shit on Facebook, all the time. Just like I know a lot of crap I write pisses people off (or bores them to tears), I see things in my friends' statuses that piss me off on a *daily basis* (lol I'm easily annoyed, I know!). But I don't comment on these statuses to say as much, because I'm not an asshole (or at least, I try not to be). Really, it's just basic manners. I'm appalled at how many otherwise normally-functioning adults lack them. :/
