Okay, here's something that reeealllly gets under my skin-- people who freak out when I tell them I hate something they happen to like. They whine and ask, "WHAT? WHYYYYY?" when in all honesty, it should be pretty self-evident why I--or anyone--would hate it. And I was just presented with the perfect example right now!

I have the TV on one of the only two channels I get, and a show just began. It started off with over-dramatic zoom-in on a couple sitting on a sofa in an abandoned loft of some sort, timed to some silly, over-the-top drums. My first thought? It was a comedy, because no way could anything THIS ridiculous be something that was to be taken seriously.
The show continued, the couple started freaking out about something; then it dawned on me that it was actually supposed to be serious! And in addition to the over-dramatic direction, it had horrendous acting, too. Then the couple get out of the building and find their dead son in a car. The mother starts screaming and falls down in slow motion. Yes, this TV show actually used slow motion. As if this were 1985.
Then the opening credits hit.

CSI.

WELL THAT JUST MAKES SENSE.

People tend to freak out when I tell them I hate CSI. I haven't seen an episode in a long time, and now this just solidifies my hatred for this show. (And that's an understatement, lol.) But yeah. It's bad enough when people can't understand that I have different tastes than they do. But to freak out and wonder why I would hate this utter garbage? Argh. It's just...what it boils down to, is that some folks can't understand why I wouldn't like a show with bad acting, awful direction, over-the-top music, and shitty dialogue? A show that is so over-dramatic and just plain bad that I thought it was a comedy at first? A show that uses slow-motion in all seriousness? And they can't understand why I would hate it? Really? REALLY?

Arghhhhh.

Anyway, I just really had to get that off my chest. lol

And don't even get me started on Glee...asghadghfgkfhfghkgdh
...Actually, I already wrote a post about Glee awhile ago, but that show pisses me off enough that it probably warrants another one! ;P

ETA:
I *might* honestly have to retract most of what I've said here because apparently this show has car-swallowing holes, fireballs and PEOPLE DYING FROM GETTING SHOT IN THE FACE WITH RACCOONS. I....I kind of have to reconsider my stance on this show because OMG RACCOON CANONS. WHAT IS THIS I DON'T EVEN.... XD

"Bad acting, awful direction, over-the-top music, and shitty dialogue."

This is exactly why I like the show. My favourite episode there's some convertible car driving, real hot rod. Then some other car goes to pass and throws a cup at the hot rod. The hot rod driver FREAKS OUT and a CAR CHASE ENSUES. The cars are all revving, racing and the crazy hot rod keeps trying to run the other car off the road. I KNOW YOU ARE THINKING: OMG VEHICULAR MURDER.

BUT NO!

THE ROAD EXPLODES AND THE HOT ROD FALLS INTO A GAPING HOLE IN THE EARTH.

A GAPING (plot) HOLE.

WHERE DID THAT COME FROM.

Oh shit! WHAT. Then the CSI people show up thinking that this is some crazy road accident but NO!

THAT HOLE. IT'S A TUNNEL FOR A BANK ROBBERY.

BET YOU DIDN'T SEE THAT COMING.

The only two episodes that are better are the furry episode and that episode where a man dies of a raccoon canon to the face. <-- There were also cannibals in that episode.

In real life, if you go back to the early episodes it's a really different show than it is now. The breakdown is usually such: CSI is decent (I find when they have a comedic episode, the writing is usually pretty fun), CSI: NYC takes itself too seriously, CSI: Miami - wtf. But yes, I totally watch CSI when I want to draw with the TV on, but don't want to focus too hard on what's playing. Think of it as Lifetime, but with more mens.

AND YES. There was a furry episode, it was amazing. IT'S CALLED "IN FUR AND LOATHING." I HAVE SO MUCH RESPECT FOR THE PERSON WHO PITCHED THAT.

I think this is it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTpiNcWYe4o

ETA: EL OH EL, please for the love of god watch the clip I commented below. I still can't believe I watched that on my television. EL OH EL!

OOHHH. This explains a LOT. The CSI I used to watch was CSI Miami, and the one I posted about was CSI NYC. I don't think I actually ever saw the original!

I'll have to watch this furry episode you speak of at some point. That sounds like GOLD. Thanks for the link! =)

Was the racoon cannon the one where they "celebrated" the lab tech's birthday? I seem to recall racoons featuring prominently.

Yes! It was the most absurd thing I have ever seen in my life. I have to admire any show that starts out with a birthday, runs into a DUI, has an exploding car, discovers a dead body with a raccoon glued to its face and ends with cannibalism, you know? Haha.

ETA: Heeeeeeeeeeere we go!

I'm with lostsailors - all the things you mentioned are WHY CSI is so great. They come up with the most RIDICULOUS deaths and crime scenes, and it really isn't a drama...I tend to view it as dark comedy. One of my favourite scenes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkFypozMTp4) is of Grissom and the coroner singing over the dead body of a rockstar. Also, the coroner keeps a scrapbook with photos of famous dead people he's gotten to autopsy. Yeah, I love this show. Last season went way downhill because they started getting sloppy with the writing, but this season's been pretty good in terms of the cases going back to being awesomely weird.

Now it all makes sense. I didn't realize that CSI was supposed to be a dark comedy; I thought it was supposed to be serious! On top of that, I've been apparently watching the wrong CSI series. ^^;

Man, I'm pretty glad I made this post because now I've actually learned something, and I can't get over getting killed by raccoon canon to the face, these writers actually have a shitload of creativity. I LIKE. :D

I don't know if the producers were aiming for a dark comedy or not, but that's definitely what they got! And yeah, of the three CSI's, the original/Las Vegas is definitely the best. New York is okayish, Miami is TERRIBLE. Bad acting, bad direction, bad bad bad David Caruso.

augh god I've given up on Glee.

Which CSI was it? Miami uses slow mo ALL THE TIME. I think they do it when they have too short an episode.

Also, your last post.... Sometimes I dream stuff and then it happens. Not deja vu. I dream it. It happens.

Glee. It's not even that I just dislike it; it flat-out ANGERS me. :(

The CSI I had posted about here was CSI NYC, and the CSI I used to watch and try to get into was CSI Miami. I realize now I've been watching the wrong ones!

You dream it and it happens, eh? You and me both, girl...and many other people, too. But WHY does it happen?! I want scientists to figure this awesome shit out in my lifetime, dammit!

Ohhh! Happy Halloween btw. Considering Halloween is why we know each other in the first place. ;)

I like to pretend to be shocked just to be obnoxious. Or you know, because obviously my opinion is law and disagreeing is just blasphemous.

I hate Glee and my friends shun me for it every time. So I make sure to mention how much I hate it every time they mention it. xD
