I am trying out all sorts of different shows to fill the void left by Lost. The latest is So You Think You Can Dance AND OMG HOW HAVE I NOT REALLY WATCHED THIS BEFORE. This show is COMEDIC GOLD. The judges are crying, wtf?! This is more hilarious than American Idol. The judges are crying. People make it through and they cry anyhow. WTF IS THIS I DON'T EVEN. I have never seen so many drama queens together in one place. This is fucking awesome. It's too bad I work tomorrow otherwise I'd totally play a drinking game to this trainwreck. Omg.

A quick word on the other new shows I've been trying out.

Stargate Universe - I've only seen one episode but I HATED IT. HATED. HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE. This show would also make an excellent drinking game. Every time they try and rip of BSG, take a drink! Or, every time someone or something in that show pisses me off, take a drink. Bah, I'd be wasted 20 minutes in.

All In the Family - I've always refused to watch this show because I can't stand the lead woman's voice, but I actually made it through 2 episodes yesterday and ya know, it's really not that bad. Nothing amazing, but it's definitely got its moments.

Glee - A mixture of ZZZzzzzzzz and ARRGHHHH. What the hell is this show so popular for? UGH. I'm going to FORCE myself to watch a few more episodes to see if it gets any better, but it's becoming a chore. If it doesn't get less aggravating in the next few episodes, I give up.

The Office - Okay so this isn't 'new' to me, I've been watching it on and off for about 5 years now, but I'm starting to REALLY follow it now. THIS SHOW IS BRILLIANT. JUST BRILLIANT. <3 This is how you make a TV show, people.

I think that about covers it.
I got the first few episodes of Doctor Who but I haven't watched it yet.
In a week and half's time, school will be done for me and I will be unemployed so I will have a LOT more free time than I know what to do with, so I'll be up to date on all kinds of shows very quickly, methinks. I hope I find something good soon (other than The Office).

ETA: OMG THE JUDGES ARE CRYING AGAIN. WTF IS THIS???!?!!? I can't watch this alone. I need someone to LMAO with. Someone come over, dammit.

When I was very little and All in The Family would come on the TV, I would run around the room begging my parents to make her shut up (the wife). Especially during the theme song, OMG! If you want a really funny show from that era, watch The Jeffersons or Taxi! To this day those shows still crack me up!

I hate Glee. I love musicals, I love singing, I hate glee. Go figure.

I love The Office as well. :D

I can't wait until you start watching DW so that I can discuss with you. I don't think you'll regret it! It's so smart, funny, different, etc. I used to get attached to the Doctors and was bummed every time they changed them but I love ALL of them. I've come to realize that it's the show that is awesome. :)

lol@judges crying. I could never get into that show but I would love to learn how to dance like that!

Oh and Stargate Universe.....so dull.

I watch too much TV!!!! lololol

OMG FINALLY! SOMEONE WHO ISN'T OBSESSED WITH GLEE!
*high-fives you*
I love musicals, Mike loves musicals, and you love musicals, yet none of us like this show. You know why? Because it isn't aimed at people who like musicals. It's aimed at people who are into musicals right NOW because they're *in* right now, and as soon as musicals are untrendy, they'll likely stop liking them, too. I'm pretty sure this is Glee's target audience.
Does this make sense? It makes sense it my head. I might have explained this badly 'cause I'm sooo tired right now, lol. But anyway I think you know what I mean. Glee falls into the same genre of "new" musicals like Across the Universe and things like that....(Across the Universe was great though).

HAHAHAHHAHA @ everything you said about All in the Family. OMG. <333

Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd I LOVE Taxi! I don't understand why all the oldies stations I have don't air it. :(
My favourite oldies show is Three's Company though. I watched 2-4 episodes per day. I LOVE IT.

*I watch 2-4 eps a day. Present tense. It's on all the time. I love love love love love it.

I enjoy some of the music in Glee, but every one of the characters makes me want to stab things. Especially Rachel.
Shows that I'm big on right now are So You Think You Can Dance - like I said on fbook, the judges are completely insane but I also do love the actual dancing, some of them are absolutely amazing. Doctor Who is always stellar, and have you ever watched Law & Order: Criminal Intent? It's far superior IMO to the regular L&O or Special Victims Unit.
Also, okay, so, we're getting cable in Gatineau and it's my very first time having anything other than bunny ears and I'm crazy excited at having more options, like OMG WE'RE GOING TO HAVE SPACE AND I WILL NEVER LEAVE MY HOUSE. Ahem. Any other rec's for channels I should have? So far we know we want Space, Nat'l Geographic, Discovery, A&E and BBC Canada.

That's EXACTLY one of the main things I can't stand about Glee. THE CHARACTERS. I don't know their names yet but...the main girl...she is NAUSEATING. I seriously want to slap her. Really hard. Are we HONESTLY supposed to sympathize with this annoying little thing? WHAT???
And that obsessive-compulsive teacher. I can't stand her. If someone told me a TV show had a character that was a teacher with OCD, I would think that I'd be thrilled. But she is SO unlikable, just so damn annoying. When she's on the screen, I want to fast-forward. What an irritating little weirdo. >:/

Space is a fantastic channel. I love Deja View because of all the oldies sitcoms, and TV Tropolis for the sitcoms in general. I gotta say though, the reason we got digital cable was to fulfill our appetite for sitcoms and comedy in general, so it really depends on what kind of television YOU like. :)

There's a channel just for oldies sitcoms? Do want!
Yeah, Rachel's the main one. Way irritating. And the OCD teacher is so...I don't even know what the word is. Even the way she talks bothers me. It's like she's swallowing the ends of her words.

It's like...the show tries too hard to be quirky and silly, and in the end it just comes off as annoying.

STEP AWAY FROM THE GLEE

The first season is kind of cute, the second season is a trainwreck.

UGH I wish I never started watching.

Considering I stopped watching after the first half, I guess I didn't miss much.

I didn't realize this show was on for TWO SEASONS. Wtf??!

It hasn't been, really. The way that networks market their shows is changing though. Glee was on from, like, October to December or something, and then again from April to June.

Something like that. And for some reason, FOX has called them different "seasons". Probably so they can sell them as two separate DVDs or something like that.

Ahhhh, that makes a LOT of sense.

I watched the first half season of Glee, but when it came back I lost interest. The fact that they're trying to get Britney Spears to guest star on the show is the nail in the coffin as far as I'm concerned. I don't even like musicals but it seemed to have a decent balance when I was watching it before.

Are you up to date on House? Might be worth catching up if you still like it. The last season had some great episodes and Libby has a recurring role in a few episodes.

Here's a list of shows I can recommend if you're looking for new stuff.

Damages: legal thriller, season long arc, flash forwards to the season finale, film direction reminds me of Alfred Hitchcock

Breaking Bad: high school chemistry teacher starts cooking meth

Nurse Jackie: dramedy, unconventional nurse with a painkiller drug habit

Mad Men: 1960's ad agency

The Middle: quirky family comedy

Modern Family family comedy meets The Office, stars Jack's ex-wife

The Wire: explores the political, social and economic consequences of the drug war

Leverage: A team of thieves help people who are screwed over by the rich and powerful; fun to watch if you don't take it too seriously

How I Met Your Mother: Neil Parick Harris, enough said.

Arrested Development: the funniest show that's ever been on TV.

I have the first season of many of these shows and just haven't gotten around to watching them yet, 'cause I'm waiting for Mike to be home to watch them, too. :)
And I finally found the CD you gave us with Pushing Daisies and Damages! I couldn't find it after I moved but I actually came across it last week. Funny timing! :)

I do hope that's the UK version of The Office, btw. Much closer to the Canadian sense of humour.

I also highly recommend Studio 60 and The West Wing if you're into high-quality drama.

I tried to watch the UK version but I couldn't understand what they were saying half the time. Also the UK one only has 2 seasons Vs 6 seasons for the US one.

The UK version of Coupling is excellent though.

"I couldn't understand what they were saying half the time"

Really? I didn't think their accents were that strong. They do speak quite fast, though, and there's a lot of slang.

And of course for all I know you're a Francophone :-)

No, I'm an anglo. I think it was a combination of the accent and British slang which I'm only vaguely familiar with.

AND NO STEVE CARRELL. love love looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove

And that guy who plays Dwight is SO WONDERFULLY CREEPY, and of course I can't stop thinking of his character from Six Feet Under! ARRGHHHH SCARY.

I'm really not that interested in the original version of The Office. All I care about it STEVE CARRELL. <333 He;s only in the US version, as far as I know. I'd watch the UK version if they ever air it here, but if I never get to see it...meh, whatever. :P

I love love LOVE SYTYCD! I get really emotional when I watch it too. Maybe it’s my background of competitive skating, but I can totally relate to the tears from both the judges and the contestants. When you do a sport that is also a performance, you’re putting it all out there, and your emotions are right on the surface. You do poorly, you cry – you do well, you cry too! You really can’t help it! The amount of work that goes into that one dance number- wow. And it’s overwhelming either way – what a disappointment to do all the work and still not be good enough, or to do all that work and be rewarded – what a feeling! They are happy tears, that’s for sure! And the judges and coaches – to watch someone grow and succeed is really something aweseome to see! When a performer just puts it all out there and you see how much they’ve grown, well that can drive you to be highly emotional too – you’re seeing your babies grow!

The first season of Glee was amazing – the show was unique, had a good story line, and music at appropriate times. If ever you get the chance, you should try to check it out. But then they painted themselves into a corner, and had to go to ridiculous lengths to get themselves out. And they break out into song WAY to often now, and that wasn’t the original vision. When I was in school, extra-curricular activities did not get “this week’s assignment”. That’s a blatant way to get more songs in. I still watch it, because A – I hope it’s going to recapture the magic it had the first season, and B – I’m addicted to it now, lol…

I’m not a fan of the Office, but so many people are! But I guess that’s all a matter of taste, eh?

Wow, what a long comment, lol… 

SYTYCD....yeaaaahhh but this isn't real life, it's TV. Never mind that 95% is likely scripted to begin with, but I'm sure 99% of it dramatics is just "I'M ON CAMERAAAAA PAY ATTENTION TO MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE~~~~~"
I mean really, the JUDGES crying...?! Hahahaha. That just about seals it for me.

I'm going to try and watch more Glee, for sure! But like I mentioned, it's become a total chore. The characters are SO annoying...I just can't stand hearing them talk or seeing their faces. I just want to punch them all, lol

But Puck is hot, so at least there's that! He's the one who used to have a modified mohawk. He is SO YUMMY... boys like him are the reason cougars like me exist, lol...

Did you just consider yourself a cougar? That's frakking HOT, you know'. Omg.

...yeah I totally forgot what we were talking about now. :P
