Is a little bit of hockey too much to ask for?! :/

I feel the need to take some time away from packing to express my anger that for the second time this week, CBC is airing STUPIDITY instead of the HABS. What is this?! Earlier this week, they decided to show the NY VS Washington game instead(?!!) and tonight, they're airing This Hour Has 22 Minutes, of all things. As funny as This Hour Has 22 Minutes can be...WTF, CBC?! I don't get RDS or TSN because for some reason they're not part of basic cable, and I didn't order any sports channels with my a la carte service because I don't watch sports except for hockey, and I dunno, maybe this is crazy wild radical thinking on my part, but I thought I could just watch hockey on basic cable like I've been doing the rest of my life.
So now I can't have the game on, instead I'll just have to rely on everyone's obnoxious Facebook statuses to keep me up to date.

It may not have been a choice on CBC's part... if multiple networks are showing the playoffs, and very few games are on on a given night, the other networks might have first dibs.

Oooh, I never thought of it that way!

But still, I find it so weird...I mean, CBC, of all channels?! And none of the French stations are playing it either. ;_;

The Canadian networks have "picks" of playoff series. CBC had the first two, and they took Vancouver-Chicago and Ottawa-Pittsburgh. TSN gets the third pick, and they took Montreal-Washington. Then, they alternated and divvied up the all-American series. That's the way it works every year, and CBC tends to pick the Canadiens last, because a lot of people in Montreal watch them in French on RDS. If they pick a team from an English-speaking city, then there's no competition: no other network gets the rights to air Vancouver Canucks games in Vancouver. So the audiences are larger.

It's just the way the contract with the NHL was drawn up.

In the next round though, CBC gets the first two picks, and TSN gets the other series that are left (there are only four series in round 2). So, they'll take the two Canadian teams (Vancouver-Chicago and Montreal-Pittsburgh), and TSN will only have the all-American series.

But you're right: it hasn't always been this way. About five years ago, the NHL changed the contract. Up until then, it had been such that CBC got all of the Canadian teams, no matter how many there were, and TSN got whatever was left. But the past few years, it's been different.

I'm sure if you were desperate to follow along, you could go to the nhl.com canadiens team site, where they probably have a streaming link to the radio broadcast. (I listened to a bunch of NY Rangers games that way this season.)

They (the ones I have, which are all basic cable) didn't air this game, nor the one before it.
