I know I'm early with watching Lost this week, and I have to wait a bit for everyone else to watch it until I can know what everyone else thought, but here's MY reaction in the meantime.
What the hell could possibly make him think it's a good idea to DRIVE FULL-SPEED INTO LOCKE? Does he want to kill him, or what?! Hurley and Libby didn't need to have near death experiences to remember the Island. So WTF? Was that really necessary then? Or is he planning something else there?!
For that matter, when Jacob touched Locke after his dad pushed him out the window, was he bringing him back to life? Was Locke really dead? Can he come back to life? Is that Jacob's gift to him? Is something similar going to happen now?
But what was EXTRA stupid was Desmond implying that fear was pointless. NO IT ISN'T. IT CAN KEEP YOU ALIVE. This is why you got pushed down a well, brotha'. As the preview for next week showed, he's trapped but alive, but that's not the point. WTF, Desmond? You're usually smarter than that.
BUT OMG DESMOND TIED TO A TREE....THAT IS SO FUCKING HOT OMG OMG OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG
AND SAYID DID IT TOO, WHICH MAKES IT *EXTRA* HOT BECAUSE OMG SAYID + DESMOND = SEXY TIMES :)
.......aaaaaanyway. Ilana pulling an Arzt and getting blown into a million pieces...um yeah I really gotta say I didn't see THAT coming. o_O;;;
Obviously, spoilers under the cut, don't click until you've watched the episode, blah blah blah.

Date: 2010-04-14 03:01 am (UTC)Not sure what made Desmond decide to run down Locke, but I think I know the why. Locke will go to the hospital and he'll get his consult with Jack and maybe get his walking back.
I don't think it's so much a near-death experience as it is familiar situations, like the kiss. It was that way for Charlie because he kept dying so many bloody times on the island and Desmond was always the one trying to save him.
I think Desmond's not afraid because seeing the alt he knows that everything will work out in a better way and he'd get a fresh start with Penny.

Date: 2010-04-14 10:27 pm (UTC)There's been so many theories as to why Desmond ran over Locke, and the one you mentioned is certainly one of the more popular ones. I can't wait to see what the reason actually is. One thing a lot of people are saying that I totally agree with is that it felt very old-school Lost, in the sense that it was a VERY wtf kind of ending that pretty much came out of nowhere and made you go, wait, WHAT JUST HAPPENED THERE?!?!? DON'T YOU DARE SAY 'LOST' ON THE SCREE--GODSDAMMIT!!!!!!

Date: 2010-04-14 01:50 pm (UTC)Maybe it's a lot more simple than that. From his perspective, even on the island, he does NOT know ( yet ) that Locke is the smoke monster. Maybe he just knows "Locke will be evil, kill 'im".
