Mike & I ended up being alone for the Oscars but of course played the Oscars drinking game anyway. As with any awards show drinking game, I ended up pretty frakking smashed. I feel fine today though. (Well, I DID only wake up at 11...LMAO). I'm sad District 9 didn't win anything but yay for best director finally going to a FEMALE! :D It seems like The Hurt Locker took it all. Now I have to go see it! And it's playing at Dollar Cinema this week, too. Hmmm. Every year I try and see as many Oscar movies as I can. More often than not, I find the movies are nominated/hyped for very good reason. Not always, but more often than not. I never end up seeing all of them though--usually just 1 or 2! lol. Last year I went to see Slumdog Millionaire for that very reason, and I was soooo blown away. Come to think of it, I haven't seen that movie again since then. It's been over a year! I need to get that movie. It's too damn good.

I was happy to see Star Trek win some awards. :) That was probably my favourite movie of 2009. That and District 9. (My favourite movies that I saw in 2009 were Slumdog, and Wall-E, but those both came out in 2008 so they don't really count.)

What were YOUR favourite movies of 2009?

God, in my stalemate of a life I literally saw no movies. I swear to go, I saw 2 I think. Star Trek, fun, and Wild Things which I didn't nearly nearly as much as I wanted to. At all. ... Is that it? OH and the Hangover. FOINE FILM. But yeah, two of those were while I was on vacation in South Africa, so that speaks volumes about how easy I find it to get to movies in my real life apparently.

I really, really want to see The Hangover. I only hear good things. <3

Up, District 9 and The Hangover were the best new movies I saw in the past year.

I absolutely must see Up. It's been too long that I've been planning to see that, and seeing it all over the Oscars last night only fed my curiosity.

I hardly ever see movies in theatres, but my faves this year were Sherlock Holmes, Inglorious Bastards and Watchmen. Honourable mentions go to Wolverine and Australia, because even though they're both cheesy as all heck, they feature a great deal of Hugh Jackman shirtless and that is ALWAYS okay.

I'm going to watch Sherlock Holmes soon--Mike has it on his computer. :)
I disliked Wolverine and was so bored by Watchman that I turned it off half-way through. Australia I'm curious about, I have to say. It didn't have much advertising but I was intrigued by what I saw. What's it about, anyway?

It takes place pre-WWII and it's about an English woman whose husband dies, and she has to take over running his ranch in Australia - Jackman plays the Aussie cowboy who helps her with the cattle herding. There's a bad guy played by Faramir, and a really cute aboriginal kid who features in the story, but really I'm mainly about the shirtless Jackman and stunning Australian landscapes.

Star Trek, District 9, Watchmen, Inglorious Basterds, 9, the list goes on. I thought the era of quality movies was over, but it seems it's only just begun...
