Mike and I watched the end of Prison Break tonight and you know what? It was all kind of anti-climatic.
I have no idea if anyone reading this is following the show and hasn't watched it til the end yet, so I'll play it safe and keep my thoughts about the ending under a
I'm not too sure WHY I found it so anti-climatic, really. I mean, if anyone asked me what I would have liked to have seen instead, I wouldn't know what to say. They tied up all the loose ends I can think of off the top of my head, and above all, they were ballsy. They killed off the main character. Eeek. I dunno. There was just something kind of lame about the whole thing.
The loose ends could have been tied up in a more exciting fashion.

I think what it really is, is that I've been spoiled by really SPECTACULAR shows like BSG and Lost, so I expect too much from too little. Not that Prison Break isn't a great show--of course it is, otherwise I wouldn't have stuck around after all these years. But it's certainly nowhere near up to par on (as? like? What the hell word follows "up to par"?) shows like BSG and Lost, or even--dare I say it--Six Feet Under or True Blood.

Seasons 1 and 2 of Prison Break were phenomenal, but the show went quickly downhill after that, imho. It stayed good, of course, but not great. I think a big problem about the show is that so many of the characters are rather one-dimensional, with a few obvious exceptions (T-Bag and Gretchen). I never liked Sarah and found her motivation for anything post season 3 just pathetic. I also never found her and Michael to have any chemistry. Everything that happened between them felt so forced to me! I can't even imagine caring about those 2 characters, and they were so central to the story and the reason the show ended the way it did.

I have to say I started liking Sarah a little bit in the movie, but wow, late much? 4 seasons too late? :/ I thought her story in the woman's prison was WAY more interesting than the storyline about Scilla/Sylla/Silla (I have no idea how to write that), and it's a shame one of the seasons didn't focus on that story instead. I really really REALLY liked Lori Petty's character and found her so interesting, I REALLY would have liked to have seen more of her. :(

Anyway, it's 12:45 AM and I gotta be up in less than 6 hours, so that's all I'm gonna say about Prison Break. So I ask anyone who might be reading this:

What should the next series we follow be?

Weeds? Mad Men? Pushing Daisies? Flash Forward? Defying Gravity?

What do you guys recommend?

That is, if you have cable. Actually I'm not 100% sure they broadcast it up here, I've always watched it online but in the States it's on USA Network. Honestly though, if they do show it up here it's more than worth watching. Best comedy detective series ever!

What's it about? What do you like about it?

Well I suck at summarizing my favourite shows well without babbling, so I'm just gonna pull from this review on Amazon:

Shawn Spencer (James Roday) was trained to be ultra-observant and intelligent by his strict, humorless father Henry (Corbin Bernsen), who wanted him to be a cop. And though he is determined never to be a cop (he doesn't even have a steady job), Shawn can glimpse clues and details that nobody else notices -- even the police.

But it backfires when he reports his observations to the police, and is arrested as a suspect. To save himself, Shawn pretends to be a psychic -- and the gimmick works so well that he decides to do it professionally. So he drags his very reluctant pal Gus (Dulé Hill) out of a boring job, and they end up regularly hired by the police chief, despite the skepticism of Carl Lassiter (Timothy Omundson), who doesn't buy their act.

It's light-hearted, it's delightfully not gory, hilarious, full of crazy 80s references and fun adventures! It's a great balance between comedy and mystery and the dialogue is just fantastic. I can't recommend it enough, and there are currently 3.5 seasons. :)

Oh no! That's exactly what I didn't want, lol--I wanted to read YOUR interpretation of the show, which is why I didn't look it up online and asked you instead. ;) But I totally understand not being able to summarize a show, it's not always that easy! On top of it all, what you said after the copy/paste is actually MUCH better than what THEY wrote: "It's light-hearted, it's delightfully not gory, hilarious, full of crazy 80s references and fun adventures! It's a great balance between comedy and mystery and the dialogue is just fantastic." You made it sound way cooler than they did. :)

Also, 80s references ftw! I'm such a sucker for nostalgia. ;__;

LOL sorry, this is why I cover all the bases! But yeah the 80s nostalgia is super heavy in the show, and I think if anything is going to convince you to watch it, it's their commercials because they're *brilliant*. This is their latest one that aired last night:

Erneute Wiedergabe!
(lol sorry, that's what it said when the video was done. XD)

Seriously, that was AWESOME. Too cute for words! I think I'm sold. ;)

Well if you haven't WATCHED Pushing Daisies, then I seriously recommend doing so!!!!! Too bad about its cancellation though :(

Also, much older, but if you've never seen Carnivale, that is one of my alltime favorites.

Then there's Dexter.

Seconding Pushing Daisies and Dexter is just...wow

Thirding Pushing Daisies.

Also The Office (US). I am addicted and went through four seasons in a week. Granted, I didn't sleep much but it was so funny.

HA! I love The Office! Well, for the most part. Steve Carrel (I can never remember how to spell his name, lol) is just pure love. :)

Pushing Daisies is indeed on my list; I included it in the post. :)

Sorry to say it, but I could never get into Carnivale. Mike and I watched up to something like the 8th episode and neither of us could be bothered to rent more after that. There was just nothing about it that drew me in, I guess. :/

I've been wanting to get into Dexter. If only for the main actor, who is the same man who played my favourite character in Six Feet Under. :)

Pushing Daisies was a great little quirky show.
I've heard good things about Dexter, I might make it my next show - that or Mad Men, which Gaelan raves about.
I haven't watched FlashForward, but I've heard a lot of baaaaaaad reviews of it, so if you do watch it let me know what you think!

I'm so curious about ALL the shows you mentioned. I'll be sure to tell you about Flash Forward when I finally watch it. :)

I like where Flash Forward is going but I'm skeptical on what they'll do after season 1 and whether the premise is sustainable for multiple seasons. Only time will tell for that but it's interesting so far.

Defying Gravity was actually getting good until they cancelled it and destroyed the sets killing any chance of a comeback. If you liked it, you should check out BBC's Space Odyssey: Voyage to the Planets which is what it's based on minus the whole Beta subplot.

I've enjoyed watching Weeds since it came out :)

I also love Kenny vs Spenny (has good replay value!), The Big Bang Theory, and Castle :)

Weeds! I really really wanna see that. :D

I've seen Kenny vs Spenny before, but I've never seen BBT nor Castle. What kind of shows are they? What are they about?

From: [identity profile] rilms.livejournal.com
Big Bang Theory:

"Set in Pasadena, California, the show concerns two male Caltech prodigies in their twenties, one an experimental physicist (Leonard) and the other a theoretical physicist (Sheldon), who live across the hall from an attractive blonde waitress with show-biz aspirations (Penny). Leonard and Sheldon's geekiness and intellect are contrasted with Penny's social skills and common sense for comedic effect. Two equally geeky friends of theirs, Howard and Rajesh, are also main characters."

It's in its third season now. It's really funny. I love how Sheldon and Penny interact :D

Castle:

"Nathan Fillion stars as Richard Castle, a famous mystery novelist who is initially called in to help the NYPD solve a copy-cat murder based on his novels. Stana Katic stars opposite as the young detective Kate Beckett. Following his encounter with Beckett, Castle decides to use her as the model for his next book series. He uses his contacts and receives permission to accompany Beckett while investigating cases. While technically a drama series, Castle also features comedy and romantic tension."

It's a crime show, but Castle is always working the case as thought it was a book of his and Beckett gets annoyed at him for not doing stuff the way the police do it.

You should defentaly check them out!! :D

Nooooo! I wanted to know YOUR interpretation of the show, not some cut-and-paste job from a website. Friends always have better, more interesting explanations of shows then some random, distant writer. ;)

But lol, 'tis all good. I notice the name Penny gets thrown around a lot lately. (Lost, Dr. Horrible, THIS...) Unless it's a common name in the US*? (Any of my American friends reading this comment want to confirm/deny that?) I've never heard that name in real life here in Quebec ever!

lol, I figured it would be the easiest way to tell you what the show was about.

I also gave you a mini version of what I felt about the shows. Either way, they some two shows I like a lot at the moment :)

And I never noticed that before...I think it all started with Inspector Gadget!

That was also one of those shows that I just wasn't into when I was little, even though everyone else was. :(

Oh, Fringe is good. I wanna get more into it. I watch it so sporadically. :(

What's wrong with suggesting Supernatural? I've heard good things, but never really watched it yet.

Oh, I was under the impression that you and Mike didn't like it. Maybe it's just him? I have a few of the seasons on DVD. I'd be glad to lend them to you next time we meet up!

Oh, Fringe. I love John Noble too freaking much. That man needs an Oscar, stat! Also for some odd reason, I find Joshua Jackson incredibly sexy and never thought that in the Dawson's Creek days.

I've never seen the show but you're right, Mike might hate it. I'm trying to remember. I know I'm definitely sick of hearing people talk about it on line (er...READING people talk about it...if I were actually HEARING these people then there would be something severely wrong with me, lol) but not so much because of the show itself, but the way these people talk about it. Then again, I do tend to hang around some of the wrong communities a lot of the time! ;)

Also: the abbreviated season of Serenity was brilliant, and the movie was very good.

PSYCH is pleasant lighthearted fun, as is White Collar. and for that matter, Bones is a pleasant diversion. Other than Farscape, I can't think of anything gut-wrenching and gut-busting for you to watch.
========================
About the ending of Prison Break; they kinda made the show wrap up on short notice, that's why the last 2 or 3 episodes were like... wtf. =(

From: [identity profile] bee-york.livejournal.com
Ahhh, Farscape! How I'm dying to watch that. Back when I lived with my ex (almost 10 years ago now, ahhh!) that show was airing on TV here and we'd catch the odd episode and kept vowing to watch it from the beginning. We never got around to it...well, maybe HE did, but I didn't. Now it's been almost a decade, I really should get around to it, lol.

I don't think I could ever sit through Serenity from start to finish. I really, really, really, really can't stand Joss Whedon. :(

that farscape thing didn't come out right, it was supposed to be a square.

LMAO! I was wondering what the deal was with that. I thought maybe you got over-excited while telling me about Farscape and started typing silly. XD
