My bi-monthly cry for HELP! ;_;
Oct. 18th, 2011 01:00 pmI had a virus yesterday but Spybot took care of it, yay. EXCEPT...Winamp no longer works! o_O I've tried uninstalling & reinstalling 3 times! The installation process appears to go just fine, but then Winamp will open and disappear just as quickly and it gives me the same error message:
"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."
What does that mean? Does anyone know? What should I do?
I have Mediaplayer but I can't exactly use it (long story). I just want Winamp back. Help?!
ETA: SHIT. It looks like the damage from the virus is massive: MSN won't work either! What on Earth does one do in circumstances like these?

Date: 2011-10-18 08:58 pm (UTC)You could try to recover the system to the back up state...you will lose whatever was causing the problem likely (unless you backed it up).
I use Firefox as my web browser with an Adblock add-on and a Script-block too...most viruses come invisible on ads and scripts, so I recommend that
if you use MS security essentials as your virus protection, that's free
and with the above 2 add ons, I doubt you'd get anything...

Date: 2011-10-19 02:42 pm (UTC)there should be an application on the comp to do a back up and it usually will calculate the space needed and ask you where to save the back up, be it to a usb or dvd/cd

Date: 2011-10-19 03:07 pm (UTC)You know, I really wonder about myself these days. I don't know if I've become stupider with age or what. :/ I actually already have some stuff backed up on USB.
Like yesterday on Facebook, when I was lamenting the loss of Winamp and complaining how useless Mediaplayer is, and one of my friends was like, "Oh, you should get iTunes" and like a good half hour later I was like, ".....oh wait I totally have iTunes!"
Like seriously. Who forgets what programs they have on their own computer? -.-
Anyway, thanks! ;)
