Mario Sixty-fucking-four
Oct. 10th, 2010 12:09 pmOkay, I have been trying to force myself to enjoy this game for TWO MONTHS now, and NO, I never played it before, I never had an N-64, I wish people would stop jaw-dropping at that, lol.
But anyway, yeah. I can't handle this game. I don't understand how and why it's so popular and how it's won so many awards because the controls ARE SO FRAKKING AWFUL. They drive me up the wall! Mario slips and slides everywhere, constantly slides off cliffs, does jumps I don't want him to do...I find myself running in circles often, and never landing or going where I want to go.
I've given this a lot of thought, and I understand that if I grew up with this game like everyone else, I would have gotten used to the controls, and they wouldn't have seen so bad back then (1996) because there weren't many (if any) other 3-D platform games out there to compare it with. But as someone who never got into 3-D games until 2006 with the Wii, I only have the Wii to compare it to, and omg, this totally sucks. Does anyone have any tips on how to play this game properly? I spent $10 on it, and I want to get through it. It took me THREE WEEKS to get past level 1-2 because I simply couldn't coordinate my jumps. I just constantly fly off cliffs. I tend to get so frustrated that I only play for 15-30 minutes before calling it a day. I'm verging on AVGN territory here. Someone please help my sanity!
Oh yeah. Currently I'm at the part right after you fight Bowser for the first time (when you have to swing him around by his tail). I still haven't found all 3 stars in the snow level. That level is frakking impossible. Do I NEED to get all the stars? Is it really necessary? Is the game still passable if I just say fuck it to the last star and keep going? It would be awesome if I didn't have to go back to that snowy little hell again!
OMG THIS GAME. >:(
