Excitement of all kinds!
May. 2nd, 2010 06:50 pmWow wow wow...where do I begin?!
I'm all moved out and currently sitting on a love-seat in our new closet of an apartment in downtown Montreal. The apartment is so tiny that I don't think I'll ever be able to have more than 1 friend over at a time, cross my heart. That is NOT an exaggeration! But location-wise, it makes it all so worth it. I can't even begin to describe what it feels like to live downtown. I've been wanting this since I was a little kid. I'm stoked. I'm amazed. I'm in awe. I'm giddy. I'm also exhausted.
Moving took alllll damn day yesterday...well the movers only took 4.5 hours, but I'm including the time it took to do some last-minute packing and cleaning and all the moving of stuff we did on our own. And we did this all whilst being hung-over as hell. Why we were hungover is another story for another post. But omg.
Also, not only have we moved from a fairly large apartment to an extremely small one, but we moved from a 4 1/2 to what's basically a 2 1/2. We got rid of a ton of stuff and are even currently storing stuff at Mike's parents' place (with a couple of things at my parents' place). Nonetheless, there is still barely any room for even *half* of it. We have 2 closets (one of them an extremely large closet) filled to the absolute brim with boxes. We started unpacking and then Mike went to work--luckily he only started at 4 today. I continued unpacking a bit myself and then stopped to go online for a bit as a very sudden and very intense wave of exhaustion just hit me. After everything I've gone through in the past 2 days, even nearly 12 hours of sleep was nowhere near enough! Luckily I don't go back to work til Wednesday, eh?
Anyway. This location BLOWS MY MIND. I can't even begin to describe it. After we woke up this afternoon, we walked down the street for a bite to eat and a coffee. A 2-minute walk down our street means hitting SHERBROOKE. Another 3 minutes brings us to DE MAISONNEUVE. It...it's undescribable. (For the non-Montrealers reading this: these are MAJOR downtown streets I'm naming here, hence my utter excitement, lol!) Also, where did we go? QUIZNO'S AND STARBUCKS. OMFG OMFG OMFGGGGGG
For those who don't know this about me already, I am absolutely HOOKED and IN LOVE with Quizno's and Starbucks, and neither of those things exist in Verdun. Now not only are they in my neighbourhood, but they're a 5-minute walk away from me! I AM SO SO SO SO SO HAPPY ABOUT THIS. I was literally jumping up and down when we walked there this afternoon. OMG. SUCH LOVE. Such loooooooooooooooooooooooove.
I would head over to Starbucks AGAIN right now and get a crazy chocolatey cherry latte-tastic cocktail of awesomeness, but Mike's at work right now and we haven't yet made copies of the keys so I'm kind of a prisoner in here until Mike gets home from work later tonight, lol. Now if only I could get the TV to work...!

I miss that location.
Try an iced mocha with 1 pump of vanilla! If you want drink suggestions just ask me. I'm a barista :D

Date: 2010-05-03 02:51 am (UTC)What a night Friday was! I drank my entire bottle of wine! The hangover wasn't so bad, just had occasional dizzy spells but ate a huge breakfast at Chez Cora. You know...the Chez Cora NEAR YOUR PLACE?! Ahhh...I'm so happy you're close to me! :D
Oh and if I had known, I would have brought you a drink tonight! I went to Indigo to buy books after visiting my grandma at the Royal Vic!

Date: 2010-05-03 04:32 am (UTC)Sounds like you're just a few blocks from me -- I'm near Cote-des-Neiges and Sherbrooke. I've lived in this 'hood for 21 years, and see no reason to move elsewhere. There used to be a lot more independent bookshops, and the Faubourg Ste-Catherine has been badly fracked up by its owners, but otherwise it gets better all the time around here.

Date: 2010-05-03 02:39 pm (UTC)Is that going to be a problem for the Lost party? There's more than 3 people confirmed now.
Your location though is great. You probably won't be spending much time inside the apartment anyway during the summer so it won't be too bad.

Date: 2010-05-03 05:53 pm (UTC)However, I have fond memories of two vanished restaurants on de Maisonneuve, Ben's and le Carafon. Ben's of course was famous as being the best Jewish deli in Canada. Le Carafon was a local French restaurant with fabulous food and friendly, efficient service.

Date: 2010-05-04 04:26 pm (UTC)Faubourg is a weird place, eh? We actually applied for a loft across the street from it that we just fell in love with (but someone beat us to the punch as they were willing to buy the furniture, and we weren't!). The Faubourg is kind of creepy and kind of cool at the same time. It's hard to explain. It's gotten even weirder since Concordia half took it over.

Date: 2010-05-04 04:33 pm (UTC)You've never been to a Starbucks before?! BLASPHEMY. Well, I like Second Cup a lot, too. It's difficult to choose between them; there's pros and cons to both of them. But it's not the plain coffee I care about though, it's their crazy mixed drinks. Lattes with cinnamon and chocolate and mint or caramel and the black cherry lattes and the syrups and the sprinkles and the etc. I LIVE FOR THESE THINGS. ;)
