I only go to the cinema a couple of times per year so I tend not to notice how high the prices are getting. Yesterday Mike and I went to a matinee. My matinee ticket plus a SMALL bag of popcorn came to...wait for it...TWENTY DOLLARS. Twenty fucking dollars. The movie (Mirror, Mirror) was terrible and the popcorn made me feel bloated. What a nice waste of $20! We chose Mirror, Mirror because it looked like a fun movie and some people Mike know are in it. But the movie was awful! And I really mean that. It wasn't a case of "oh, not my kind of movie" or anything like that. I mean it was actually, unobjectively a really badly made movie. If anyone reading these words right now has seen this movie and liked it, you'll have to explain to me why because I just...I can't understand why or how anyone could enjoy this thing. It was very pretty, I guess? And Julia Roberts is awesome. But there's absolutely nothing else good about it. Parts of the plot didn't make any sense, it was super clicheed and followed the perfect Hollywood formula when it CLEARLY didn't have to because it *did* have some good ideas that they didn't bother to use. Worst of all, Snow White (aka the MAIN CHARACTER) was played by the worst actress I have seen in a long, long, long time. I have NO idea how this chick got the part, but she is atrocious. If I saw her in a high school play I'd be annoyed and distracted by how terrible she was, but in a HOLLYWOOD MOVIE? Are you fucking kidding me?! Everyone says Kristen Stewart is a terrible actor (I've never seen Twilight so I don't know) but there is absolutely no way in hell she's worse than this girl. When the next Snow White movie comes out I guess I can see it with the comforting thought that no matter how bad it is, it can't possibly be worse than Mirror, Mirror.

Oh yeah, and the movie ends with a Bollywood moment. I'm not kidding. It ends, and then all of the sudden the characters start dancing around with Snow White (who in addition to not being able to act, also can't dance) while she sings a very Bollywood style of song. It makes about as much sense as it sounds.

Yeah, I've heard nothing but bad things about Mirror Mirror. I am looking forward to Snow White and the Huntsman though...

I'm disappointed, because I really, really wanted to like it. :(

The actress playing Snow White is the daughter of Phil Collins. So, my guess, if she's a terrible actress, is she got the role via Hollywood nepotism.

Awwww! Who were your celebrity crushes as a preteen/teenager? I had sooo many! Will Friedle and Rider Strong from Boy Meets World, Jonathan Brandis (RIP! ;_;), Keanu Reeves (I had a bird named after him! ^_^), Alec & Billy Baldwin (lollll), and a few others but those were the main ones. :)

Oh, and Christian Slater...depresses me what he ended up doing but anyway...:/

Oh man, Christian Slater circa Prince of Thieves...yum! Mine were pretty boring, Leo of course, and Jonathan Taylor Thomas. And, inexplicably, John Goodman. I really can't explain it. Half of me wanted him to be my dad, the other half wanted to marry him!

I remember what you said about John Goodman. :) He ROCKS!

I never see films in the theatre because if the prices! It's like 30 bucks here for two tickets ALONE. Can you imagine trying to do a family outing at those prices?!

And oh god Mirror, Mirror pooks SO BAD. Glad to hear it is just as horrid as it looks.

It's too crowded for my taste on Tuesdays. I just end up wanting to kill everyone around me instead of enjoying the film. :(

So...I guess the answer is don't go to the movies anymore?

Why wouldn't I want to go to movies anymore? o_O

Cause it's expensive and on cheap days it is crowded?

It's expensive but still worth it. I only go to the movies a couple of times a year so it's kind of a special treat. :) I don't know what question you're answering. XD

Sorry, I was being male and trying to solve a perceived problem with logic.

....what???

OK, I'm really lost now. It's like we're having 2 different conversations. ;) Let's backtrack a second:

So...I guess the answer is don't go to the movies anymore?

The answer to what question? I didn't ask a question.

Sorry, I was being male and trying to solve a perceived problem with logic.

What perceived problem? That movies are expensive? Big deal. So are most things in life, unfortunately. What makes you think I was looking for a way out of it? If I want to treat myself to a movie a few times a year, it's my choice to do so. I know I'm unemployed, but it's not like I go often. I might be missing something here, but I don't know why you're telling me not to see movies just because they're expensive.

All of that is weird enough, but most importantly: what does being a male have to do with anything? Are you implying that women can't use logic? I assume (and hope) that's not what you meant, so can you please explain yourself more clearly?

*Takes a deep breath*

Ok, first off, I want to apologize for any and all miscommunication.

I am not saying you shouldn't go see movies or you should only go see movies on Tuesdays. When I was at Brock and the only money I had was from my mother, I still saw some movies in the theater (typically not on Tuesdays as I had Scouts then). You can spend your money on anything you want, it is not my business.

I am not implying that women can't use logic. When I was at Brock and took my Gender and Language class, one thing it spend a bunch of time on was women's troubles talk. It's not something men generally understand and should just accept, but every so often, men forgot this and try to fix the perceived problem. It may not really be a problem to the woman, but from what the guy hears, it sounds like one and the typical response of a male is to fix problems they find.

So, I perceived you to be complaining about the high cost of movies. I suggested going on Tuesdays, but you declined that suggestion based on crowds (which is fine, I hate standing in crowds). Not knowing anything else to suggest, I (more jokingly than not) suggested not going to the movies based on the high cost and large crowds.

There is also a good chance that I misinterpreted your post. If the movie was good, you may not have minded paying 20$ for the movie.

So yes, I hope that clears some things up :)

You're much too obsessed with what men do in a situation versus what women do (and vise versa). It's great that you find gender differences so interesting, but you focus on it too much. :/ For example, I think it'd help if you look at problem solving (and a lot of other things) as something *people* do, as individuals, not a man VS woman thing. ;)

You're right, I probably do. I would say that problem solving is something both sexes do. I'm not sure where problem solving came from as we were having a communication problem.

It's is also not about men vs women, it's just that we have different ways of communicating a bunch of the times. It is something that most of are engrained with from when we are children. It's how society has raised us. It is important to recognize those differences so we are better able to work together and be on the same field. It is the same as dealing with a culture from another part of the world. They may do things that we find disrespectful, but are respectful in their culture.

To better understand how people view their world you gain a better appreciation for how they live their lives and are better able to work with them.

Anyway, this is turning into a long rant, which isn't where it was suppose to go. I only wanted to suggest ways of improving your movie experience. I failed at this, I am sorry. I am sorry for bringing it up.

There are *definitely* inate differences between men and women, for sure, and it's interesting to notice the differences between them. But just not all the time, with every single little thing, ya know? ;)
