This journal is 50% friends-only. Comment if you want to be added.

How does 50% friends-only work? Mine's friends only and LJ automatically locks all my posts, even if I want them open. It's annoying, I have to go to edit the post and unlock it manually if I want non friends to be able to see it.
Also, I'm just going to assume I'm on your friends list, cause I'm that awesome.

My journal is public, so whenever I write an entry, I have a choice if I want to post it as public, friends-only, or private (me-only). I leave about half of them open to the public, and the other half friends-only. I've been doing it half/half like this for about a year now, and have been meaning to make this "friends-only" message for about that long.
This message isn't meant for people who are already on my LJ; it's just for new people who may have stumbled across it or who want to add me, etc. You're already on my LJ so you've been reading all my friends-only posts. If you ever want to check and see if you're friended by someone or no, check your account info. It tells you who you've friended, who's friended you back, and vise versa. :)

I would never take you off my f-list, not in a million years! ^_^

Btw, if you ever want to check and see if you're friended by someone or no, check your account info. It tells you who you've friended, who's friended you back, and vise versa. :)

I try! lol. I don't read every single word but I do read parts of it, at least, and go from start to end--as much as I can, anyway!

Pick me!

I write short stupid entries and since it's summer they will be about doing drugs or mental health. Yay.

And your posts aren't shit. I like your journal a lot, actually. You don't write about your cats or posts memes. You don't engage in drama or gossip. PLUS, you post your artwork. That actually makes for some pretty awesome reading, honestly. :) Your journal is genuinely interesting to read.

Your little xoxo message on the Montreal community made me smile after I was pissed at the snobs in our city. Seriously, it really cheered me up. I was getting ready to attack them with Fajitas! Then, I read your NPH entry (I love him), laughed until I cried (dialing in your calculator!!!).What I'm trying to say is, I think you're an awesome person! I'd love to be on your FL. :)

Omg! What a sweet message. Of course I'll add you. :)

I apologize on behalf of the snotty people on [ profile] montreal. That comm is filled with people either on one end of the spectrum or the other; either REALLY chill, cool people, some of whom I've become rather good friends with (and much yayz for that! ^_^), OR really, really rude, snotty people who honestly go LOOKING for chances to leave extremely passive-agressive, condescending, snarky, sarcastic, and factitious comments. But, I've been jumping in more and more now to defend the people who don't deserve that crap and making friends out of it, so YAY for that at least! ;)

Anyway, sorry for the tl; dr reply, lol. I'm glad my entry about NPH made you laugh. Your comment about the fajita attack made me laugh, so we're even. ;)
Cheers! =)

I really enjoyed reading about your first year of teaching. I am also a teacher though not teaching at the moment since I am from the US and have no idea how to go about teaching here. Anyway, I would love to continue to read about your teaching adventures. Best of luck in year first year of teaching!

Oh hey there, fellow teacher! :) I'm glad you enjoyed reading about my first day. What do you teach?

I added you, btw. :)

In Texas I taught third grade and then was a Reading Coach for another few years. In Washington State I taught ESL to middle school and high school students.
Right now, since I am not working, I am taking an online course to get my school librarian certification.

You taught ESL in Washington? That's so interesting. What was the students' first language?
How long have you been in Montreal for?

Date: 2009-09-06 06:59 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile]
Their first language was Spanish which is also a language I speak. I found that made it easeir and made them more comfortable as well. I would like the challenge of teaching other ESL studens who do not speak the same language. i would imagine it would be a bit more difficult but worth it.
I have been in Montreal for 9 months.

Cool! In your experience, are there many ESL opportunities in the US? Because my boyfriend and I hope to move there one day, and I've been wondering what the ESL situation was like there with children who speak Spanish as their native language. Or any other language for that matter...of course, the US has a lot of immigrants! :)

How did you end up in Montreal, if you don't mind my asking?

Date: 2009-09-06 11:09 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile]
From what I have seen yes, there are ESL opportunities in the US. I have seen the need for ESL, bilingual education teachers in South Texas which is where I am from. Also in a lot of border states but I don't doubt there is the same need in other states. It often depends on the area. For example, there was a need in North Central Washington where I was at but since it was a rural area the school districts were not very big and thus not many teaching jobs.
I don't know what you would need to do in order to get certified in the US as each state has different but similar requirements. Is this sometime in the far future?
We are in Montreal due to my husband's job. We will only be here a little over 2 years and then be moving back to the US. I like Montreal (we live on the West Island)but since I do not work I have not really had the opportunity to meet people thus I decided to keep busy by taking online classes. :-)
